Holy Trinity Sunday, May 27
The big deeds accomplished to the chosen nation during the ages by God, attests to the exceptional role of this nation, which received from Him, the wisdom and greatness. In the Old Testament however this contact with God was pretty much limited because no one could see Him not telling about the intimate relationship with Him. The slavish fear was a main movement which made the chosen nation towards God and not a love. Even that, on the basis of made-up polytheistic believes the Jewish religion in one God, that was feared of God was after all a big step forward. God himself has intervened in the history of His nation showing above all a spiritual – loving aspect of this relationship. The first sign of this relationship are the Ten Commandments received by Moses on Mountain Sinai. From the part of the people, these commandments needed their inner motivation to love God with their heart. God has shown His love in the coming of Jesus into the world and especially in His offering on the cross. Although the people were not able to give the same measure of love to God, God himself helped them with His Holy Spirit who through the baptism makes the followers of Jesus the adopted children of God. The same way it changes the status of each man putting him in a very close relationship to God: “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a Spirit of adoption, through whom we cry, ‘Abba Father’. The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God”. This Spirit was given to the Church at the day of Pentecost as a gift and since then on He manifests full power in working after the Ascension of the Lord in the Church. In the same way, this was presented in the true image of Triune God. Jesus speaks about it today: “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age”.
