The Spirit of God came to rest on 70 elders of the Israelites chosen by Moses and with that they started to prophesize. This Spirit is an announcement, which in theology called “figure”, of the Holy Spirit who will work in the Church. In answer to Joshua, who wanted to stop the prophesizing of the two elders, Eldad and Medad, who were out of the camp when the spirit came, Moses thought: “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Would that the Lord might bestow his spirit on them all!”. Something happened similarly to Jesus’ disciples, who, seeing someone expelling the evil spirit in the name of Jesus, wanted to stop him. Jesus, as Moses did, in the fervent attitude of the man, sees no reason for jealousy but a point of a good beginning, to cooperate for the sake of the kingdom of God: “There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us”. Everything started in a modest way, with simple things, made as a sign of sensibility to the people who were in need for the sake of the kingdom of God proclaimed by Jesus, while condemning all evil and abuse of the little ones. Jesus gives us some example of this: giving a cup of water to drink, demoralizing of the little ones, that means, of the children who trust the elders. To the last one, whoever scandalizes the children, will come terrible punishment of “Gehenna, where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched”. The sexual abuse of minors by some priests, which has come into light, after many decades in many places all over the globe, are a good example of this condemnation by Jesus. Jesus’ advice to those who have the inclination to sin that way, it is better to cut his sinful parts of body (hand, leg,eye …) in order to avoid that horrible punishment of eternal condemnation.
